Mr. Sheridan practices primarily in complex civil matters. He has over 25 years of trial and appellate court experience in significant antitrust, commercial and natural resources litigation, including extensive work in oil and gas law, water law, Indian law, and litigation arising out of federal and state regulation of business and industry. Representative examples of Mr. Sheridan’s cases include:
Trial on behalf of three natural gas producers of a complex breach of contract action against a public utility, obtaining a $31.9 million federal court jury verdict for plaintiffs.
Trial on behalf of the United States of an antitrust suit under Section 7 of the Clayton Act to block a merger in the mining industry.
Trial on behalf of hundreds of non-Indian water rights owners of a major federal Indian water rights case, adjudicating surface and groundwater claims of four New Mexico Pueblo Indian tribes.
Representation of a multi-national natural resources company in a complex state corporate income tax matter, contesting certain corporate income tax deductions and the constitutionality of state taxation of foreign source income.
Appellate counsel to a diversified energy company in a series of federal court appeals concerning royalty accounting for oil and gas production under federal leases of Indian lands, including a petition for writ of certiorari in the U.S. Supreme Court.
Representation of corporate defendants in the entertainment industry and pharmaceutical industry in state court indirect purchaser consumer class action antitrust and unfair trade practices litigation.
Mr. Sheridan began practicing law in Chicago in 1976, moving to New Mexico in 1981, where he was a member of Campbell, Carr, Berge & Sheridan, P.A. until its merger with Holland & Hart on January 1, 2001. In 1995-96, Mr. Sheridan served as a Trial Attorney in the Antitrust Division of the Department of Justice in Washington, D.C., where he was a recipient of the Division’s 1995 Outstanding Contribution Award. Mr. Sheridan was the administrative partner in Holland & Hart’s Santa Fe office in 2001, and in 2002, he accepted assignment as the firm’s resident partner in Washington, D.C.
